National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) & Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), has formulated the School Safety Policy, 2016, with a vision of safety of school children. The Hon’ble Supreme Court has directed all the States to prepare an action plan along with time-frame for implementation of the guidelines. This policy is statutory in nature. The guidelines have been implemented in Assam with effect from September, 2017. The guidelines have incorporated the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders involved in School safety, for preparing plans, developing capacity, incorporating risk reduction in the syllabus, and improving co-ordination & synergy at all levels. Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in collaboration with the Education Department, Govt. of Assam has implemented the national guidelines in the State.
